“The Frame as a Sculptural Device”
An artist’s role is to break preconceived notions built up in our lifetime, and to give us a fresh look at things we have grown accustomed too. A frame hearkens back to an old understanding we have of art, static paintings hanging on a wall. However, in our modern lives, through television, computers, even books and magazines, we use the frame to help us concentrate on our immediate purpose and focus. The intent of my sculpture is to bring attention to the forms, contrasts, rhythms, and colors within the
frame, and around it. The viewer’s ability to participate in the work, by posing with it in various ways, reminds us that what is within the frame is only a small part of the bigger picture.
