Flag Parade
2003, 1000 flags, 22 feet by 45 feet
This project started from the fantasy of painting a hill in blocks of color, and evolved into creating over 1,000 small multi-colored triangular flags. I found the right venue to exhibit them on the Snyder’s farm (where the second Woodstock festival took place), route 212 on the way to Woodstock from Saugerties. This colorful and kinetic piece delighted drivers as they passed by, and I would be inspired to create other such pieces on the rolling hills of U.S. highways and in airports. This installation lasted through 6 months of a snowy winter, and since then I have created an improved flag that can last much longer, in any type of weather conditions.
